Collapsible Bookshelf 

Like the Quick-Crate, the bookshelf version, which stands at 7' tall, is fully collapsible.  Constructed with 3/4" plywood and held together with nothing more than 10 steel clips, this bookshelf allows for easy assembly or disassembly in just minutes. 

With the shelves being interchangeable and reversible, this work can be customized to any setting in your home or office.  Simply slide the shelf out and into a different slot.  Since each shelf extends left and right asymmetrically when inserted in place, you can also flip it around 180° for functional or aesthetic reasons to give a totally different look.   

As you can see, when the shelves are slid into place the circles cut in each panel mate with the same shape cut in the vertical supports to create a sphere volume.  This volume exploits the idea of the simple, utilitarian connection between the panels to create a whole new design element in itself.  An element unseen until assembly.  The spherical shapes bring a pleasing contrast the otherwise orthogonal rhythm, as well as, create perforations in the body of the bookshelf.  These holes allow the viewer to see through the bookshelf and give a sense of lightness to a potentially intimidating, large form.  The floating effect created by the bottom shelf hiding the "feet" also lends itself positively to the overall comfortable balance of size and aesthetic.
